Twenty-five states added construction jobs in September, according to Associated General Contractors of America. Thirty-four states and Washington, D.C., added construction jobs during the past year.
“While two-thirds of states added construction jobs in September on a year-over-year basis, job gains were limited to half the states in the latest month,” said AGC Chief Economist Ken Simonson. “While some states are still seeing strong demand for construction—particularly of data centers—demand in other areas is less strong.”
Oregon added the most construction jobs from August to September—2,000—and Rhode Island had the largest percentage increase of construction jobs for the month—2.2%. From September 2025 to September, Louisiana added the most construction jobs—18,800—and had the largest percentage increase—13.9%.
Wisconsin lost the largest number of construction jobs (-3,300) for the month and Alaska had the largest percentage decline (-3.3%). During the past 12 months, Georgia lost the most construction jobs (-4,900) and Alaska had the largest percentage decline (-5.3%).
